Importance of Tire Rotation

Your vehicle’s tires don’t wear evenly, especially depending on your Roswell driving habits. Rotating your tires helps distribute the tread wear among your tires, which improves their lifespan and helps them last longer. It’s recommended that you rotate your tires about once every 5,000-7,500 miles. All-wheel drive vehicles are recommended to have their tires rotated about every 3,000-5,000 miles since all of the tires are engaged and wear faster. If you’re ever unsure about when to rotate your tires, consult your owner’s manual for a more specific number.

Importance of Tire Position

Knowing what types of tires your vehicle has will help you determine how to do a tire rotation on your vehicle. Here is what you need to know about tire position:

  • FWD Tires: For FWD tires, you’ll want to move the front tires to the back and the back tires to the front. You’ll want to switch the rear tires to the opposite sides after moving them to the front but can leave the front tires on their original sides after moving them to the back.
  • RWD Tires: RWD front tires should be switched to the opposite side when you move them to the back. However, the rear tires can remain on their original sides after they are moved to the front.

Rotating Your Tires at Home

Learning how to rotate tires at home is pretty straightforward. You’ll need a set of jacks and a lug nut wrench. Once you have the appropriate tools, you’ll want to perform the following:

  1. Be sure your vehicle is in park and the parking brakes are engaged.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts with the wrench on all of the wheels without removing the lug nuts completely.
  3. Using the jack, lift up one car wheel and place a jack stand underneath the wheel.
  4. Remove all of the tires one at a time.
  5. Rotate your tires accordingly based on whether they are AWD or FWD. You’ll then screw on the lug nuts by hand as far as you can.
  6. Once the tires have been rotated, you’ll screw the lug nuts back on and lower the tires down with the jack.

Regularly rotating your tires will help them last longer and perform better on the Cumming roads.
